Kevin J. Kinsella has been in the venture capital industry since 1983 when he founded Avalon Ventures. Mr. Kinsella has specialized in the formation, financing and development of more than 60 early stage companies, including: Athena Neurosciences, ARIAD Pharmaceuticals, Aurora Biosciences, Caliper Technologies, GenPharm International, IDUN Pharmaceuticals, Landmark Graphics Corporation, Neurocrine Biosciences, Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Pharmacopeia, River Medical, Senomyx, Sequana Therapeutics, Synaptics, Talarian, X-Ceptor Therapeutics and Vertex Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Kinsella was the founding chairman of Athena, Aurora, Landmark, Microcide, NeoRx, Onyx, Sytera, Synaptics, Vertex, X-Ceptor and Sequana. He also is an early stage investor in Amira Pharmaceuticals, Ambit Biosciences, Anaptys Biosciences, Illumina, Inc., and Vocera Communications. Mr. Kinsella is also chairman of the investment committee of Poland Partners and INNOVA 98, respectively a $62.5 million and a $125 million fund investing in Central Europe.


Mr. Kinsella is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1967) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management, with minors in Electrical Engineering and Political Science. He holds a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) (1969) and did post-graduate work in political economics on a Rotary International Fellowship at the University of Stockholm, Sweden. Mr. Kinsella is a Life Sustaining Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Dean�s Advisory Counsel at SAIS and a Vice-President of the Board of Trustees of the San Diego Museum of Art. He is the largest producer of the Tony Award Winning, hit Broadway musical, Jersey Boys.
