Intellectual Property

To support its claims and provide marketing protection, Akesis has developed a broad intellectual property portfolio that includes several issued patents (see table below). This patent portfolio is being prosecuted domestically and internationally, and encompasses compositions and uses of matter, delivery in multiple consumer-oriented forms, delivery alone and in combination with other agents (including all classes of diabetes therapeutic agents), and methods for treatment and diagnoses. Following are highlights of key patent claims:
- A method for treating daily blood glucose fluctuations
- A method for treating elevated A1C levels
- A method for improving the ability of a subject to metabolize glucose
- A method for reducing the dosage of anti-diabetic medication needed for diabetes treatment, where said anti-diabetic medication comprises one or more of insulin, a thiazolidinedione, a sulfonylurea, an α-glucosidase inhibitor or a benzoic acid derivative
- A composition for the treatment of diabetes comprising metformin, (magnesium), (chromium), and (vanadium), which components synergistically treat diabetes
- Improve glucose metabolism in a pre-diabetic subject
- (Treatment of) a condition selected from the group consisting of atherosclerosis, heart disease, hyperglyceride, and hypertriglyceride
